A gift to a charitable institution, whether it is $20 in the Sunday offering plate
or a new wing on a hospital, can make the donor eligible for a decrease in the
amount of their income that is considered taxable.
When donating personal property, the value of the donation must be determined. If the value
is over $500, the IRS form 8283 must be filled out. A donor may do this themselves, as long as the value does not exceed $5,000.
Where the value is greater than $5,000, the services of an appraiser with the training, education and experience to provide a fair and honest value for the donation are required by IRS regulations.

After the initial no-charge inspection and careful study of the intended donation, we develop a preliminary evaluation that includes the range within which the appraisal will fall. At that time, we also quote our fee for services. This is an all- inclusive figure, which includes our services, services provided by our regional site inspector, the appraisal, supporting documentation, and the properly
completed tax form. We are also available to the donor to help with any questions or concerns that may come up.
Once the donation has changed hands, our licensed appraisers develop the appraisal using the final inventory received from the recipient to compare with the initial report and the findings of the inspection. We prepare the appraisal as a legal, printed, signed document. It comes to you with supporting documentation.
Once we have heard back from you and received your invoice payment, our licensed appraisers prepare the IRS form 8283 which accompanies your federal income tax return. We fill in the appraiser’s section and forward it to the nonprofit recipient, where an officer fills in their section and sends it on to you.
